Mission Statement

The Mission of the Oswego Youth Soccer Association is to promote organized athletic development and competition, to provide wholesome recreational athletics and sport activities under supervision, and to improve the health fitness and mental condition of our youth by coordinating a program of soccer play and instruction. The OYSA also provides playing opportunities for novice as well as experienced players integrated through house and travel league teams to foster the development of soccer players who value friendship, competition, and sportsmanship in their play.

In addition, OYSA is committed to providing low-cost fees for participation, including scholarships, since Oswego is the county seat of an agriculturally and economically under developed county.

We look forward to meeting other members of the community who wish to join our team dedicated to providing children with the opportunity to play soccer.

Our History

The Oswego Youth Soccer Program was founded in 1977 by Dick Benjamin, a physical education instructor at the Campus School in Oswego. The program began with seven volunteers, novice coaches, and the loan of the soccer field at the Campus School at SUNY-Oswego. Prior to this date, there was no soccer program in Oswego (including the school system).

By 1980 the program grew to over 400 boys and girls in grades 1-6. The soccer program in Oswego joined the Central New York Junior Soccer Association in 1985. As the program continued to expand in size, a Board of Directors was formed in 1985 to assist in running this organization. Dick Benjamin served as President of this organization until his death on May 19, 2000.

The Oswego Youth Soccer Program is affiliated with the Central New York Junior Soccer Association, New York State West Youth Soccer, and the U.S. Soccer Federation.

Today, the Oswego Youth Soccer Association enrolls approximately:

* 420 players in the fall house league program,
* 100 players in the winter house league program,
* 150 players in the winter travel program,
* 440 players in the spring house league program, and
* 180 players in the spring/summer academy program.
