Oswego Soccer’s camp for young children returns this summer, during the week of Mon., July 14 to Fri., July 18. The first day, July 14, will be from 4:30 to 6:30 PM and will include handouts of team shirts and name tags. On all other days the sessions will be from 5:00 to 6:00. Cost is $25. Major League Soccer camp returns to Oswego this summer, with two sessions during the week of Mon., Aug. 4 to Fri., Aug. 8. The morning session (9-noon) is recreational, and the afternoon session (4-7) is competitive. Cost is $125. Players in grades K-12 are eligible to participate. The board held its yearly elections at the November 2007 meeting and elected the following officers: Vice President -- Greg Gilbert; Registrar -- Kim Fatiga; Treasurer -- Joan Carroll; Travel Coordinator -- Johan Godwaldt. Elected to member-at-large positions were the following: Jeff Baum, Brenda Getman, Mike Todd, Missy Verdoliva, Brian Chetney. We extend our congratulations and appreciation to all the new and returning board members. Oswego Youth Soccer welcomes volunteers for coaching, refereeing, concession stand, and other roles. Parents who have registered a child for winter house league can register as volunteers through the registration link. Interested players can now sign up for spring/summer 2008 travel soccer and should do so soon. Registration can be completed online via the registration link on this page. Players age 12 and under need to register as soon as possible, as OYSA must commit to teams in these age brackets by Monday, January 28. If there are not enough players to constitute a team by Monday evening we will not be able to commit to having a team. Travel soccer is at a competitive level. Players will participate in approximately eight games. Half of these games will be held at the Richard J. Benjamin Soccer Complex in Oswego, and the other half will be held at other soccer facilities in the CNY region. Most games are within a 45-minute to 90-minute drive. The soccer played at this level is at a higher skill level than the house league play. The cost of participating in the travel soccer program is $90. For the $90 each player will have the opportunity to play in league games, participate in one tournament, and use of a uniform. If the uniform is returned at the end of the season, a $25 refund will be given. Any questions can be directed to OYSA Travel Coordinator Johan Godwaldt.
